Communication

How to Communicate Your Needs in a Relationship

Unspoken expectations are hard to meet, but stating a need does not guarantee the other person can meet it.

In short: State needs as specific requests, listen for the other person's needs and evaluate whether agreements turn into consistent behavior.

Separate need from strategy

You may need reliability; daily texting is one possible strategy. Naming the underlying need creates more room for solutions.

Be specific

Replace 'care more' with observable requests such as keeping plans, checking in after conflict or discussing changes rather than disappearing.

Watch implementation

A productive conversation should eventually change something in practice. Repeated agreement without follow-through is useful information.
